Popcorn was not always the great-tasting, fun-eating treat it is today. Many early varieties were either extremely hully or very chewy after being popped. In the early 1940's, John Metzger and Syl Osting, farmers living near Delphos, Ohio, saw the need for a brand of popcorn that was crisp and crunchy to eat, yet tender enough that anyone could enjoy it. (Thus our Mello-Krisp label)
Today, Carl's son, Bob, strives to continue the tradition of high quality and sound business ethics that have been established over the last half century. The company that began with John and Syl's 10 acres has now grown and progressed to handle thousands of acres of popcorn, which is shipped worldwide. And the same pride and care go into every pound of popcorn today that John and Syl put in, back in 1943.
Today's markets demand a high quality product. And we at Metzger's know that quality popcorn begins with the seeds you plant. That's why we conduct our own extensive hybrid testing program to evaluate both established and experimental varieties. Only the best hybrids ever make it to the hands of our experienced growers.
Once conditioned, our popcorn goes through an extensive cleaning process, including separation by size, separation by density, high velocity and high volume air cleaning and the latest "electronic eye" optical sorting. This cleaning process, using state of the art separation equipment by experienced personnel, is another key to ensuring that only the finest quality popcorn moves on to our packaging lines.
We also do private label packaging. And remember, if you have other special packaging or labeling requirements, just give us a call or email us at the address at the bottom of this page. We're flexible to meet your needs.
Metzger popcorn is no longer enjoyed just in the United States. People around the world are discovering the fine quality that has been Metzger's hallmark for the last 50+ years.
